Australia Contributory Parent (Migrant) visa (Subclass 143)

This visa lets parents live in Australia if their child is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia. This visa is different from subclass 103 only with regards to the visa cost and processing time. The charges of this visa are much expensive and the process is relatively faster.

Eligibility Requirement for Subclass 143

  • The applicant has a child who is an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen and is ready to sponsor

  • The applicant’s child has been living in Australia legally for at least 2 years before the visa application

  • The applicant should meet the Balance of family test criteria

  • The applicant is prepared to pay higher visa application charges for quicker processing.

  • The balance of family test determines the extent of the applicant’s connections in Australia under the two conditions given below

  • at least half of your children live permanently in Australia

  • more of your children live permanently in Australia than in any other country.

This is a permanent residence visa which allows the applicant to

  • stay in Australia indefinitely

  • work and study in Australia

  • enroll in Medicare, Australia's scheme for health-related care and expenses

  • apply for Australian citizenship (if you are eligible)

  • sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence

  • entitled for social security payments after 2 years of stay
