Australia Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa (Subclass 173)

This visa is for temporary stay and remains valid for a maximum of 2 years f they are the parents of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia. Parents can apply for the permanent Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143) if they want to reside in Australia permanently.

Eligibility Requirement for Subclass 173

All prospective visa applicants for parent visa sub classes have to meet the below mentioned criteria:

• The applicant has a child who is an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen and is ready to sponsor

• The applicant is prepared to pay higher visa application charges for quicker processing.

• The applicant should meet the Balance of family test criteria

The balance of family test determines the extent of the applicant’s connections in Australia under the two conditions given below

• at least half of your children live permanently in Australia

• more of your children live permanently in Australia than in any other country.
